Lydia Squires

Apprenticeship with Unilever

Back

In this week's Throwback Thursday, we celebrate former student, Lydia Squires, who recently returned to college for our Progression Day event.

Lydia, a former Deyes High pupil, attended Winstanley College from 2020 to 2022 taking A-levels in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry. She then secured an apprenticeship with Unilever where she is currently employed alongside pursuing a sponsored degree in Data Science at Keele University.

Lydia said ‘I am employed within Unilever's AI team which is fast-paced and fascinating. I am immersed in passion for cutting-edge technology and innovation every day. My role involves working on sophisticated AI projects, contributing to advancements in the field, and gaining invaluable industry experience.

I hope to complete my degree and progress in my career at Unilever, there are so many opportunities within this field.

My advice to current students would be to look at all the apprenticeship and sponsored degree opportunities available and apply for everything that interests you. Your college teachers can support with application and interview preparation Also don’t be put off by rejections; keep applying!’

Lydia’s  story is a shining example of what Winstanley College students can achieve with dedication and hard work. Her contributions to Unilever’s AI team and her ongoing studies in Data Science are just the beginning of a promising career. We are incredibly proud of Lydia and look forward to seeing her continue to make significant strides in her field.

Stay tuned for more inspiring stories in our Throwback Thursday series, where we continue to highlight the achievements of our remarkable alumni.
