Sports Teams
We’re extremely proud of our competitive sports offer. Our staff include fully qualified coaches across a range of sports who want to give you the best possible sporting experience. We aim to develop your skills both on the pitch/court tactically and off it as a whole person. We pride ourselves on how we encourage you to play the game with the right attitude and in the correct spirit of the game. Over the last few years, we have had numerous sport teams represent the college successfully at regional levels which has led to them qualifying for the AoC National Championships. At the last championships, we had 30 Winstanley College students from 7 different sports qualify for the event: the highest representing college in the North West for that year.
Selection Criteria
Selection for our representive teams is determined by sports team training sessions which take place each week. You are encouraged to keep coming to training even if they are not selected for the matchday squads as we want every student to have the opportunity to participate in sport.
You may participate in more than one sport if the sport training schedule allows. However, if selected for more than one team, you will have to decide which team you wish to represent, as fixtures typically take place at the same time (Wednesday afternoon).
The selection criteria for our more popular sports is very high, however we typically have two teams for these sports. Our first teams usually consist of students playing at club or county level who want to test and challenge themselves at an elite level, whereas our second teams cater for those who want to learn and develop their skills in a more casual environment.
So, whether you’re a talented and committed sports performer or a novice beginner we encourage all of our students to try out for one of our many sports teams as there is something here for everyone.
