Former Winstanley College and St Peter’s High School student, Georgina Macauley, recently returned to college for our volunteer fair, in her role as Quality and Training Assistant for Citizen’s Advice.
As well as signing current students up for volunteering at Citizen’s Advice, Georgina also found time to tell us more about the route she took after Winstanley.
Georgina said: ‘I studied at Winstanley between 2012 and 2014, taking A-levels in Psychology, Sociology and Maths.
I chose Winstanley because it was modern, welcoming, and placed a high importance on excellence and achievement. I think it prepared me well for the next steps to university with lots of encouragement and support.
Originally, I wanted to go into accountancy but after work experience and attending uni open days I decided on a Sociology and Psychology degree at Liverpool John Moores. The campus was small and Liverpool was close enough to home to visit for the holidays, but far enough away to help me build my independence.
My current role is Volunteer, Quality and Training Assistant for Citizens Advice where I have been for nearly 5 years. My working day is varied, I can be working on campaigns to attract and recruit volunteers one day and then training new recruits the next.
The advice I would give to prospective and future students is: ‘volunteer while you are in college, it can be the one thing that sets you apart from the next person when applying for university or apprenticeships.’
