Review: Our House at Winstanley College
Featured News - Dec 19
It’s that time of the week again where we catch up with a former student, and this week we heard from the brilliant Charlotte Rhodes.
Charlotte joined Winstanley College in 2014, after completing her GCSE’s at Westleigh High School. Whilst at Winstanley, she studied Graphic Design, Creative Writing, Media Studies and English Language and Literature. On becoming a Winstanley student, Charlotte had the goal of becoming a primary school teacher, however soon discovered her passionate flair for writing.
“I owe a huge thank you to Fran for teaching me some of the best lessons in writing and inspiring me to believe in myself and pursue the more creative path, even if it wasn’t the easiest one.
It was this reignited passion for writing that led me to go on to study English Language with Creative Writing at the University of Huddersfield, where I continued to explore my love of both the technical aspect of the English Language, and the creative freedom of it.”
Charlotte graduated from Huddersfield with first-class honours, before securing a job in marketing at On the Beach. Her career began as a Content Admin Assistant, but just 2 years later, Charlotte became a Content Executive! This role involves the creation of content, email copy and destination pages for the website.
Further to this role, Charlotte produces work on a freelance basis, and has her own blog centred on all things wellness and general happiness. “I’m still fairly new to the blogging world, but I’m excited to see where things go and to continue learning and flexing my creative muscles in my role at On the Beach.”
When asked what advice she would give to prospective Winstanley students, Charlotte said:
“Don’t worry if you don’t have it all figured out from day one. Use your two years at college to find where your passions lie, whether that’s in a module that you’re studying, or an extracurricular activity that you picked up. See what works for you, what you truly enjoy, and let that be the path that you follow. If you’re unsure about options for the future, then speak to your teachers or personal tutor - they’re there to help you! And most importantly - don’t forget to enjoy every moment, because in a few years from now you might be writing a post just like this one, reflecting on all of the fond memories you made at college. Best of luck!”
