This week we are catching up with Rebecca Jackson-Jones, former Winstanley College student who went on to study Biomedical Science at Sheffield University.
Rebecca, previously a Lowton High School student, attended Winstanley College between the years of 1996 and 1998. During her time here, she studied biology, chemistry and psychology. Rebecca then went on to study Biomedical Science at the University of Sheffield, before securing a postgraduate position at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London.
From here, Rebecca went on to complete her postgraduate certificate in Histopathology (the diagnosis and study of diseases in the tissues) at the University of Westminster, whilst training in-house at the Institute of Biomedical Science.
She didn’t stop there! Rebecca then went on to obtain a Masters of Sciences in Histopathology at the University of Westminster, before being promoted to Senior Biomedical Scientist. In this role, Rebecca was working in the diagnosis of breast cancer.
Rebecca then took a seven year break to have children and in 2017 she retrained as a personal trainer. Just four years later, Rebecca owns her very own personal training studio, and is hugely successful in her field! Throughout lockdown, Rebecca paved the way for gym-goers alike with her deliverance of high quality online training sessions, proving that she is an unstoppable force!
When asked what advice she would give to prospective Winstanley students, Rebecca said:
‘Choose subjects that inspire you to want to learn more, that way you will enjoy your learning! Also, don’t stress if you don’t have an end-point career goal just yet. Things change constantly as you get older and you will naturally progress into doing what you love!’
