Review: Our House at Winstanley College
Featured News - Dec 19
This week we are catching up with former student Paul Whalley, who left Winstanley in 2008 and has since gone on to cement a hugely successful career in the music industry.
Paul attended Winstanley from 2006-2008 and studied Music, Music Technology, Media Studies and Photography. When reflecting on his time at Winstanley, Paul only has fond memories, particularly of the theatrical performances and musicals he took part in which had a profound impact on him. When it comes to his fondest memory, Paul cited his former teacher, Paul Clay, as being wonderful and supportive; someone he is thrilled to still be in touch with.
After leaving Winstanley Paul went on to study at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, a highly esteemed Performing Arts institution. Since, Paul has cemented a successful career in the music industry working as both a Songwriter and a Music Producer. On what a day in the life looks like, Paul said:
“No two days are the same. I’m usually in a songwriting session with either a new and upcoming artist, or one that is signed to a major record label. Some days I work with other producers as a session musician and a vocal producer. Every day is completely different – which is the most exciting yet challenging thing about the job!”
During his career, Paul has worked with some pretty big names including the likes of Anastacia and most recently The Wanted. This project enabled Paul to work in big studios and record with a full live orchestra; one of his ultimate career goals.
We loved catching up with Paul and are so grateful to have remained in contact all these years. A final takeaway from Paul is this:
“I regularly learn that you never know who you’ll meet in the future and the connections that can come back around, so be nice to everyone and put into everything what you want to take out.”
