Review: Our House at Winstanley College
Featured News - Dec 19
This week’s Throwback Thursday focuses on Allan Willis, a former Winstanley College student who has gone on to become a highly regarded professional in his field. We are unbelievably proud that Allan’s journey to success started here at Winstanley, where we embody an ethos of excellence and encourage all students to achieve their full potential.
Allan attended Upholland Grammar School from 1977 – 1981, during which time the school transitioned into Winstanley College! Whilst a Winstanley student, Allan studied Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Biology. Allan then went on to study Psychology at the Royal Holloway College in London between the years 1983 – 1986.
After leaving university, Allan trained as a primary school teacher working in Newham, East London. But he didn’t stop there! After sparking an interest in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Allan trained as an Educational Psychologist (EP), spending 2 years running a unit for pupils with severe ASD before working in private practice as a specialist. More recently, Allan trained as a psycho/hypnotherapist, but continues to work in 16 schools as in EP.
Upon reflecting on his time here at Winstanley, Allan said:
‘I loved my time there and I still have friends I made then, even though I’ve lived in London since 1986! The teachers were so good and I also played rugby and cricket for the college. Mr Heath (biology) was an excellent teacher and Mr Rowe (cricket mentor) was very supportive. Awesome college – go there!’
