Winstanley sport stars summer of success
BackThree Winstanley College students have achieved in prestigious sports competitions over the summer.
Milly Tinsley, a former Standish High School pupil and Alana Rampling, a former St Peter’s Catholic High School pupil, both competed in separate gymnastics competitions in the USA, with great success.
Alana, a Psychology and Health Studies student, competed in the US and came an impressive sixth overall in the world! Alana’s category is general gymnastics which includes all 4 pieces.
Milly, who is studying for A-levels in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and PE competed at the USAIGC World Championships in Florida in June. USAIG (United States Association of Independent Gymnastics Clubs), is a four-day competition across various gymnastics disciplines. Milly, whose speciality is floor gymnastics, came away from the competition with gold, silver, bronze and a sixth place. Milly’s coach is also a former Winstanley student!
Meanwhile, karate champion, Danni Williams, who is taking A-levels in PE, Psychology and Criminology trained and competed in Croatia over the summer. Danni, who previously attended Upholland High School, then went on to win Gold at the commonwealth karate championships in Birmingham last week.
Louise Tipping, Principal, commented: ‘We have some extremely talented sports men and women at Winstanley. Alana, Milly and Danni are fantastic examples of this. Competing in world standard events alongside college studies, requires organisation, dedication, and enthusiasm which these three stars clearly have; we are immensely proud.’
