Winstanley College's Men's Football Team Advance to the Quarter Finals of AoC Sport National Knockout Cup After Hard Fought Win

Winstanley College's Men's Football team have progressed to the Quarter Finals of the AoC Sport Men's National Knockout Cup following a hard fought 4-2 victory against Brooksby Melton College.

The team started extremely well and took the lead after a deflected strike from Kobi Royle but conceded an equaliser 10 minutes later after a great finish. An exceptional strike from 25 yards by captain Joe O'Neill gave the team the lead again shortly before half time. A much more cautious second half developed until a terrific header from Reece Lamble seemed to put the game to bed but Brooksby Melton did not give up easily! They responded with another outstanding finish to make the game 3-2; this lead to a tense final 5 minutes until Max McCaffrey finished the tie once and for all with one of his trademark cool finishes.

The team waits to find out who they will play in the final 8 but the squad (along with our Netball and the Men's 2nd Football Team) have another massive game on Wednesday next week when they travel to local rivals St John Rigby for the return fixture from several weeks ago.

Team manager Ben Rutherford had the following to say on the victory:

'The lads continue to grow and develop as individuals and as a team. It's great to see how much they have developed as the year has gone on! We are looking forward to Wednesday now and testing ourselves in the derby.'

Well done team and good luck next week!
