Throwback Thursday: Helena Hampson
BackThis week, we’re thrilled to spotlight Helena Hampson, who studied at Winstanley College from 2013 to 2015. Helen is now Senior Marketing and Recruitment Officer at The University of Bolton.
During her time at Winstanley, Helena studied for A-levels in Media, English Language, and Psychology. After completing her A-levels, she went on to pursue a BA (Hons) in Communication and Media at the University of Liverpool, with a combined honours in Film Studies during her first year. She also had the opportunity to complete a placement with Liverpool Sound City, where she gained valuable insight into the media industry.
Upon graduation, Helena continued her education with an MA in Fashion and Business at Manchester Metropolitan University, gaining hands-on experience with Manchester-based fashion brand Unique 21. While completing her dissertation, she took on a part-time role in digital marketing for a bridal wholesaler, which later became a full-time position.
It was during a role at an online fashion portfolio platform that Helena discovered a passion for higher education. After delivering a guest lecture to fashion students at the University of Bolton, she found a route into her perfect career in the sector.
Today, Helena is a Senior Marketing and Recruitment Officer at the University of Bolton, where she’s been since April 2022. Her role involves coordinating school and college visits, supporting recruitment events like open days, and working with student ambassadors. One of her proudest moments was going full circle and returning to Winstanley College in 2022 to staff a stand at their Careers Fair.
Reflecting on her career so far, Helena says: ‘I love working in Higher Education and being able to support students, who were once like myself, navigate their future and make informed choices about university.’
Looking ahead, Helena is committed to furthering her professional development, participating in HELOA training sessions to expand her expertise in student outreach and support.
