In this week’s #ThrowbackThursday we catch up with Clinton Thomas, a proud alumnus of (2019-2021), who recently returned to share his journey with aspiring medics. Clinton, a former student at Golborne High School, studied Biology, Chemistry, History, and completed an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) during his time at Winstanley.

Clinton’s hard work and determination paid off and he is currently studying Medicine at Lancaster Medical School and is on the path to becoming a Cardiothoracic Surgeon.

During his visit to College, Clinton offered valuable insights to students hoping to follow in his footsteps.  He advised: “To students looking to follow a similar path into medicine and eventually cardiothoracic surgery, my advice is to stay focused and determined. Work hard in your A-levels, as they lay the foundation for your university applications. Prepare thoroughly for your interviews, as presenting yourself confidently and demonstrating your passion is important. Do well in your UCAT, as it plays a key role in securing offers. Also, get as much volunteering and work experience as you can – it not only strengthens your application but gives you valuable insights into the profession. Stay resilient, and remember it’s a marathon, not a sprint.”

He added: "Applying to college is an exciting step toward your future. Stay focused, work hard, and believe in your potential. Every effort you make brings you closer to achieving your dreams, so embrace the journey with confidence."

We’re proud to count Clinton Thomas among our Winstanley alumni, and we know his journey will inspire many more to pursue their ambitions with the same dedication.
