Election fever hits as students prepare for hustings event

Winstanley College will host a husting event on Tuesday 25th June, ahead of the General Election.

Students will have the chance to meet and question local candidates from the Makerfield constituency, including Joshua Simons (Labour), Simon Finkelstein (Conservative), Maria Deery (Greens), John Skipworth (Lib Dems) and Robert Kenyon (Reform).

First year politics students, Mittal Bhudia and Daisy Harris, who are helping to coordinate the event, said that their peers are particularly interested in areas such as immigration, human rights, education, and health care.

Daisy commented; ‘We have been following the candidates closely both at local and national level and discussing and debating policies in class. The husting event is a fantastic opportunity to get first had experience of a political debate; we are all very excited to take part!’
