Winstanley College Celebrates Outstanding Achievements on A-Level Results Day
BackWinstanley College students are celebrating another year of success after the Class of 2023 received their A-level results. An impressive 57% of students achieved high A* to B grades (59% Distinction/Distinction* in vocational courses), whilst the overall pass rate stands at 99%.
Numerous students have achieved outstanding individual results, with many securing places at prestigious universities across the country, including Oxford and Cambridge.
Straight A student, Lucy George, achieved A*, A*, A* in Maths, Biology and Chemistry and an A in Further Maths. She is now progressing to Cambridge University to study Natural Sciences.
The college’s performing arts students have again shone through this year. Talented musicians Cecilia Loughney and Arran McCormick, both former St Peter’s RC High pupils have taken up their first choice offers after receiving impressive results. Cecilia achieved A*, A*, A in English Language, Music, and French and is now progressing to Oxford University to study Music. Arran achieved a distinction in his IT Diploma and a Distinction* in Music Performance and is heading to BIMM Manchester to study Popular Music Performance. Others have taken up places at LIPA, Liverpool Media Academy and WaterBear College.
Some students’ plans are taking them further afield, including former Lowton High pupil and talented sportsman Lewis Forster. Lewis has secured a scholarship through his talent for javelin, to study Mechanical Engineering at Manhattan College. He has hopes to reach Olympic standard in javelin whilst also pursuing a career as an engineer.
This year has also seen an increase in Winstanley students securing apprenticeships and sponsored degrees with prestigious employers. One such student is Jessica Lavin, who previously attended Byrchall High School. Jessica achieved A, A, A in Spanish, Maths and Computer Science and will be taking up a degree apprenticeship with BAE systems in Air Digital and Technology Solutions Data Analytics.
Principal, Louise Tipping expressed her delight, stating, "I am immensely proud of our students for their remarkable achievements in this year's A-Level examinations. These results are a testament to their dedication and the exceptional guidance of our teaching and support staff. I know the class of 2023 will continue their success in the many different paths they are taking, and we hope that many will join our growing alumni network allowing them to keep in touch and inspire future year groups.
