The National Cyber Security Centre has granted Winstanley College a CyberFirst Silver Award. The award recognises schools and colleges who are committed to providing a structured approach to excellence in cyber security education.

To achieve the award the college had to demonstrate how curriculum and enrichment provides students with an opportunity to progress in cyber security.

Winstanley College student, Charlotte Speed, was invited to attend the awards ceremony alongside Principal, Louise Tipping. Charlotte has excelled on her IT Diploma this year and will be progressing to a Cyber Security degree after college. Louise and Charlotte were presented the Silver Award Certificate by the RT Hon Ben Wallace MP, the Secretary of State for Defence.

Phil Jackson, Head of IT, said: ‘The initiative was set up by the NCSC to encourage a more diverse range of young people to pursue careers in the cyber sector. Achieving the award means that we now have improved links with industry partners for our students. Careers within cybersecurity are growing and it is our job to make sure Winstanley students have all the skills needed to be at the forefront of career opportunities.’
