Winstanley College student, Paul Parry, recently took an exciting trip to Malawi to support projects organised by the charity, Network for a Better World.

Paul painted parts of a school, handed out clothes to school children and visited some desperate families. He also took out footballs and gave one to each school he visited. Many of the children had never handled a proper football, having made their own from condoms stuffed with paper.

The charity was founded by Paul’s Great Aunty, Alice Davidson, who has built schools, and implemented many projects such as solar power, irrigation, teaching, first aid, hand washing and sewing for income.

Whilst on the visit, Paul had the honour of opening a set of classrooms which his grandfather, who sadly passed away in 2020, bought the furniture for. He was presented with a gift to pass on to his Great Aunt Alice.

Now back from the trip, Paul intends to support with the charity’s social media alongside his college studies and to continue to raise money for footballs.

Mike Jones, Paul’s personal tutor at college, said: ‘We are extremely proud of Paul for all the amazing work he has done in Malawi. He has made a real difference to the lives of people living in some of the poorest conditions imaginable and all this alongside studying for his A-levels. We know Paul will have a very bright future ahead.’
